Police Officer Meets with Buck School PTA and School Administration

A meeting was held at William L. Buck School on Tuesday evening with Police Officer John Miller of the 5th Precinct Problem Oriented Policing Unit and CG Jo-Lynn Tripp to discuss the concerns of the PTA and School Administration. The following concerns were discussed:

• Traffic in front of the school regarding double parking and speeding

• A request for a Crossing Guard was made to be placed at the intersection directly outside the school. School Administration will put it into writing and submit to Nassau County.

• Request was made for a flashing speed sign to help control drivers from speeding. School Administration will submit a letter to Valley Stream Village Hall.

• Issues involving large groups of kids “hanging out” at Wendy’s in Lynbrook and harassing customers. Lynbrook Police should be notified.

• Reports of drug locations in neighborhood which are currently under surveillance

• Are there gangs in the neighborhood? NO just clicks of kids

• What are the consequences for sexting and cyber bullying?

• Creation of New Bullying Hotline

• When to call 911

• Project 21 and local arrests made

• Protecting personal property from burglary and theft. Lock your vehicles.

• Valley Stream 24 Community Blog and contact information

The POP UNIT would like to thank the William L. Buck PTA and Administration for inviting us in to speak. We truly hope that they found it informative and helpful. We look forward to working with you to help resolve any issues and to keep your school safe and informed. Please feel free to contact us if there is anything further we can assist you with.

P.O. John Miller
